06:26 pm - Phen Update
Well, I started classes today. I ended up not getting a TA position again *cries* but I'm praying I get residency at least so I don't have to pay $7000 (residents pay about $3000...big difference). Here's hoping. I hate grad school.

Anyway, I think since I'm not getting a position I might be a part time student this quarter. No point taking classes I don't need, right?

Went to both of my classes today. The one I don't need would be easish but would probably suck just because everyone in the class seems to know WAYYY more about bionanotech than me.

The other (microcomputer something or other) is probably going to be evilly hard. I expected that; unfortunately, it's required. Was taught by the TA today though since the prof was in France so the class was only about 20 minutes long. Yay!

I really will get back into LJ sooner or later I swear. Please don't write me off yet! *whimper*

04:13 pm - I love politics...
So I just sent off my ballot for the Seattle/Washington primary election. But can I just say I love some of the kooks running for Senator? *grin*

I have the voter pamphlet with their mission statements and I swear some of them got their names on the ballot just so they could have their blurbs here.

Here are my favoritesCollapse )

11:57 am - sat meme
okay, this meme feels a bit like bragging...or not. I wish I'd scored higher, actually, but my SAT was 1490. Ironically enough the meme is right...my ACT (which I also took) turned out to be 33. And even though Harvy Mudd did accept me when I applied there, MIT did not.

what does my SAT score mean?Collapse )

01:06 am
I GOT TO SHOWER TONIGHT!

Okay, to all of you who didn't have major surgery last week and haven't had suspect hygiene due to weird instructions like "you can sit in the bathwater...just don't get your chest wet" and "don't try to wash your own hair", this is not a big deal. But to me...it is!

Still in bandages, still have stitches, still walking wounded, and still bruised and swollen as heck, but doing well. New smaller bandages today though, and the stitches come out next Monday.

In other news...

WOOT! My new class schedule (as of this evening) rocks!

why it rocks, as well as bitching and moaning about the EE departmentCollapse )

10:56 pm - Rising Phoenix-like from the ashes...
Hey flist!

I'm back and feeling almost human again.

Oh God do these bandages itch though. *wants to claw them and to hell with the mess and badness it would make*

So anyway...more about my reduction and aftermathCollapse )

01:13 am - final meep...
My alarm goes off in about 4 hours so I can wake up and get ready to go to the clinic for surgery.

Weird to think...I just took off my huge bra for the last time. Soon it and all of its comrades will be just rags. I won't even get to buy a new one for a month since I'm not allowed to wear one until then (and won't that just be insanely weird?)

Bye bras. Sorry you're going to be useless now.

Bye old boobs. Sorry I didn't like you enough to keep you and not betray you like this. Please don't hurt me too much...

*hugs* Thanks, flist. I know I haven't been around much, but I still remember you all (and hope to still make a comeback). But having your support...is great.

10:05 am - Update...
Well, I got back from Arizona just fine...LONG drive. Should write more about this and maybe I will later, or maybe not.

But anyway, Happy Labor Day or Happy Monday, whichever it is you are or are not celebrating.

As for me...

The breast reduction surgery is tomorrow at 7:30 am. That means in 24 hours the doctor will probably just about be sewing me up at this point. I have no idea what I'll look like (chestwise anyway) or even feel like tomorrow, and that is a damn scary thought...

eep?

For anyone that's interested, I'm headed off to Arizona for a week or so.

In the meantime...check out the songs on this site! (click blue arrows to play) Hilarious ;^) The guy is brilliant...I'm shocked he's still waiting to be signed.

10:45 pm - I seriously wonder about LUSH's security...
So EB and I ordered some discontinued LUSH products back in June that were supposed to be here in August...

so when I stopped by LUSH today, I asked about the order. Here was the basic conversation:

09:01 pm - SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
So...I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding in about a year and I went with the bride-to-be to go check out dress styles so we could think about what the bridesmaid dresses should look like...

while we were at JC Penny's there was one dress I tried on that just looked really, really good on me! Jokingly I looked at the price tag (since most of the dresses we were looking at were between $150-$400)...and it was on sale. A BIG sale. I found out why...it has a tiny tear that I'll have to sew up but...

I got a $285 dress for $9.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it looks so good on me. I really haven't wanted to buy any clothes for my top part since I'm going to have the breast reduction surgery (in two weeks *gulp*) but how could I turn this down!?! My guess is that it will still fit pretty decently after...I hope so. I love my new little black dress *snuggles it*

Oh, and while I was there I also found a $36 green skirt for $9 and a $30 wrap for $20. Total that's $42 for almost $350 worth the clothes.

I am a very, very happy Phen ;^)

11:38 pm - Snakes on a Plane
Ended up seeing Snakes on a Plane today...

actually? I liked it! Quite a lot. It was a bit cheesy, yes, and there was some bad computer animation, yes, and some bad acting, yes, but it was funny, moved quickly, had great action, and totally did not take itself seriously. Great!

Way better than I expected and perhaps worth at least some of the hype.

Okay, yeah...there were some plotholes such as...Collapse ). And there were the overly convenient answers that abound, such as...Collapse ) and all the death cliches. (you'll know what I mean when you see it.) But ignore all of these; it's worth it.

Go, don't question...just sit back and enjoy the snakes. On the plane.

oh yeah and actual spoiler deserving of being cutCollapse )

09:35 pm - Public busses are just disturbing...
so today the guy across from me starts talking to the guy next to me about his hash and his giant brick that he keeps at home--clearly neither knew the other before that point, but then they both pulled out their bongs and started comparing...

06:51 am - Check this out...
Epic 2015 (and 2014)

Interesting little vid...predicts the clash between traditional news media and the new online estate. Aka...New York Times v. Googlezon.

Note: if you're interested, watch both videos. The 2015 one seems mostly optimistic though you still get an undercurrent that something is wrong with ePIc. If you watch the 2014 one, it makes the situation seem downright dark...

In other news...I went to the Seattle tattoo expo today! And I am very excited. I'm 99% sure I know where I'm going to get my next tattoo. It's called Madame Lazonga's here in Seattle. This one artist...has the most gorgeous bird tattoos I've ever seen, including some awesome phoenixes (which is what I want). So I'm stoked. Now I just need to decide when. The other cool thing about the shop? It's all female!

Oh, and I was there for the "Worst Tattoo Contest." Let me tell you about some of the entries:

12:42 am
*hee* I just noticed today that we get Canadian television (CBC at least). Watched a show with a bunch of commedians and really enjoyed it. It's fun to see another country's perspective that way...I know I think Leno gives a decent view of American attitudes after all, so I imagine Canadian commedy is similar. (Would you think so, Canadians on my flist?)

Particulary the guy who did the bit about Americans (For Americans, Canada is a great place to visit. The people talk like Americans, act like Americans, and eat like Americans. And those are the things Americans seem to value most about another country ;^) Yep...

Although it was interesting...any commedian over 220 lbs or so was considered to be SOOOO fat. Whereas in the US? It seems that's pretty normal...

------------

Also, here's another story: I was on the Ave the other day standing at the busstop. I saw a lady start digging in the trashcan and just assumed she was looking for something to eat (happens a lot). But she finally found a bowl of noodles (looked like Ramen)...and flipped it all over the ground and then enticed the pigeons into noticing it before walking away. So I spent the next 15 minutes or so of bus-waiting time watching the pigeons eat noodles...there's a fun experience for you! Good god are they greedy little birds...they flip the noodles up in the air and they land...on the other pigeons who just run around then with noodles on their backs, pecking each other. Kinda hilarious ;^)

I was reading BDSM poetry online and came across this line:

S/M is forgetting to take off your steel cockring, and it sets off the alarm at the airport.

Is it just me or is that exceedingly cute? *grin*

Okay, I know this is always a sore subject in the fandom, but I can't help it, I love this quote I came across online:

"If I plagiarize, it's only because I like someone else's idea better than mine and I want credit for it."

02:25 pm - Nick Brendan siting
Weird...there's this random movie on ABC Fam (Celeste in the City) which I wasn't really watching at all...until I looked up and saw a familiar face! Xander!

No clue if it's a good movie or not...again, not really watching, but he's a bit...weird. WAy too much hair gel, a strange part and the busiest pink shirt you ever did see.

[And my guess is that he's gay. If not, his character is the most metrosexual guy ever. It's basically a Queer Eye for the Straight Girl type make-over movie]

*hee* And omg, there is a Hilary Duff song on the soundtrack. [Metamorphasis]

11:38 am - *dies in a puddle of sweat*
Who says global warming isn't real? It's pretty damn warm in my section of the globe. (Okay, so it's only 83 right now which is a pretty major improvement, really, I'm just whiny. This weekend has been high 90's though and it'll probably get there later today too)

I feel bad for poor Dante though, sporting his little mousy fur coat. *dithers* I think if roomies will let me I'll move him downstairs where it's cooler until the heat goes. Even though he looks spry and healthy and I'm giving him plenty of water and all, I can tell he's feeling the heat because he's not running on his wheel much the last few days whereas normally he's turning marathons.
