What Use is a Souvenir
Original fiction, written for the Sensory Overload ficathon run by ephemera_tales. An awesome idea, I might add! I urge my flistians to check it out as there are a lot of great contributors.
Suitable for most audiences: contains mentions of slavery, some descriptions of violence, and a bit of innuendo on abuse
Summary: A description of the escape of the slave Ket, and a bit of his struggle to find freedom.
The given prompts were:
Title: What use is a souvenir
Sight: orange
Sound: barking
Smell: rot
Touch: fur
Taste: apple (okay, so I sorta abused this one ;^)
A/N: Originally, this was slated to be a much longer story taking in quite a larger time frame. But then I started writing bits and pieces of it and ran out of time. So I edited it down to this short story. If I ever have the time, I will expand on it with what else I intended. Until then, I think this stand okay on its own!
A/N2: A “winter” refers to a year and years in this world are, for the sake of simplicity, assumed to be approximately equal in duration to our years. “Hand” means five.
